Date of Passing: Aug 22, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE HARVEY AKINS George Harvey Akins passed away suddenly and peacefully at the home of his daughter on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009. He was born in Winnipeg in 1922 and had just celebrated his 87th birthday. He will be lovingly missed and dearly remembered by his son Barry (Lynda), daughter Mary (David Peters), and son Roy (Kerri), grandchildren Kim (Arthur Wiebe), Donna (Roberto Furletti), Steven, and Catherine, and great-grandchildren Eric, Marissa, Nikolas, Jordan, and Adam. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 1983, sister Lois (and her husband Larry Shaw), and brother Larry (and his wife Elma). For 37 years Dad worked for the City of Winnipeg, beginning his career as a draftsman and retiring as the Manager of Land Surveys and Real Estate. Over the years Dad loved going to the lake, taking long walks when he was still able to do so, ship building, model trains, and early morning drives in the country. As his eyesight failed, music became a very important part of his life. A service to celebrate Dad's life will be held at Westworth United Church, at Grosvenor and Lanark, on Monday, August 31st at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, if people wish, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, CNIB, or the Heart Stroke Foundation. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
